Thread: Line Form Image brings together the work of Blair Martin Cahill, Clare B Jones, and Kelly Mead in an exhibition exploring the expressive potential of thread and textile-based processes. Through hand stitching, layered surfaces, and material experimentation, the artists approach thread as a language capable of describing image, form, and human experience.

Spanning figurative and abstract approaches, the exhibition reflects the evolving place of fiber and textile within contemporary fine art.

Biography

Blair Martin Cahill creates narrrative-driven embroidery using thread to build character, gesture and emotional presence. She holds degrees from CalArts and Chelsea college of Arts and has exhibited internationally including the Royal Academy Suer Exhibition and a recent solo show in New York

Artist Statement

My work begins with an imagined narrative-who the figure is and what they carry. That sense of story guides each decision, from gesture to expression to the accumulation of stitched line. Thread becomes both structure and mark, shaping form while holding emotional weight. Through a slow, deliberate process, the image emerges as something both constructed and felt.

I’m interested in how embroidery can move beyond surface, creating a space where viewers encounter not just a figure, but a presence- one that invites a quieter more attentive kind of looking.

Biography

Claire B. Jones creates free-standing sculptural forms by “painting” with thread on cotton canvas. Raised in the textile rich Paisley region of Scotland, her path spans both technology and stitch, from studying software engineering in Edinburgh to her current practice in the Pacific Northwest. Her work emerges from the is intersection, where engineering precision meets the time-honored traditions of textile expanding what can be achieved through machine stitching.

Artist Statement

Working with thread, I explore the balance between strength and fragility through process=driven making. Using layered machine stitching, I build structured, tactile forms that emphasize repetition, time and material presence. Limiting my practice to canvas, thread and free-motion embroidery, I create work that is both grounding and open. Inviting quiet reflection while holding a strong physical presence
